We are now Sun+Earth Certified
We believe that when given the choice, people make ethical decisions.
But when it comes to one of the most important decisions we make on a daily basis — what to buy — it can be tricky to know which purchases are in line with our values. Without complete and readily available company transparency, or a rigid third-party certification, there's a decent chance that your purchases, unbeknownst to you, are directly supporting things you strongly disagree with.
That's where strong and independent third-party certifications come in. These certifications help consumers navigate purchasing decisions and allow for values-driven shopping.
This is why we're jazzed to announce that we are officially Sun+Earth Certified. Along with our close partners at Luminous Botanicals and Green Source Gardens, we are among the first Oregon cannabis companies to achieve this stringent certification.
Sun+Earth Certified is a truly rigorous process that means something. A mix between elements of both B-Corp Certification and USDA Organic, Sun+Earth certifies cannabis that is grown under the sun, in the soil, without chemicals, by fairly-paid farmers. That last part is a big one. Ethics in cannabis, like in all things, is difficult to verify. We believe Sun+Earth verifies it. They performed an in-depth audit into our governance structure, employee rights, pay and benefits, and the way in which we engage with our community (in our hometown of Takilma, in Portland, and in Oregon as a whole).
The importance of independent and stringent third-party certifications cannot be overstated. Without them, we are subject to unchecked and misleading claims about environmentally friendly, socially conscious, or fair trade practices (green-washing), racial discrimination (white-washing), labor exploitation, and other ethical breaches that can be marketed away until they're covered up.
